Had dinner for four with another couple. Service was excellent, decor was warm/inviting, and food was good. Standout dishes were the pan roasted strip loin and blue crab beignets! I'd pass on the citrus glazed pork belly. Specials on the wall were hard to see/read, but our server did a wonderful job explaining them to us. The drinks were phenomenal--I had a "Blood Oat" and "LPG Old Fashioned" which were both home runs.
My Hubby and I visited during the Essence Festival. This place came highly recommended and did not disappoint!! The service and the food were good. The hubby had a burger and it was amazing! Very juicy even though he stripped it down but he did add an egg. He said one of the best burgers he has ever had. I had the Blue Crab beignets and it is probably one of the best things you will ever put in your mouth!! It was delicious. The drink the waiter suggested to me wasn't good but appears to be a local favorite. The place is very cozy and kinda upscale. I highly recommend even though the food is very pricey.
After a few less than stellar restaurant choices in NOLA (which RARLY disappoints, based on previous experience), La Petite Grocery was a WELCOME 5-star experience. Amazing service, kid-friendly, and delicious food. They must not make a lot of kir royales, as that was meh, but the English pea/shrimp risotto, dumpling appetizer, and overall meal experience was incredible. I'd go back!
I was just reminded the "other" dish I could not recall was the Alligator Bolognese. The pasta tasted housemade, it was delicious!
A wonderful taste of New Orleans! Had the crab beignets, shrimp and grits and butterscotch pudding. First two courses were accompanied by a glass of Veltliner, and the latter with a cappuccino.
I had another great meal at La Petite Grocery. I have been to La Petite on numerous occasions over the years. I've never had a disappointing meal, and my most recent visit was no exception. We came to celebrate my wife's birthday, which happened to be on the night of the Magazine Street Champagne Stroll, one of our favorite events. Magazine Street was bustling and festive and full of laughter and good times. We visited a few boutiques before arriving La Petite. We were greeted at the door with a friendly smile and then shown to a beautiful two-top in the front window. The location could not have been better for witnessing the festivities outside. We ordered cocktails then alternately sipped and watched the world go by. After studying the menu and after much anguish over which of the many interesting looking dishes to order, we made our choices. My wife chose the ricotta dumplings as an appetizer, and I had the pork belly. Both were outstanding, but I preferred the pork belly. It was an unbelievably creative dish full of contrasting yet complementary flavors, textures, and temperature. For entrees, my wife ordered the alligator Bolognese with a fried soft boiled egg which she enjoyed thoroughly. I selected the paneed rabbit with sauce Grenobloise. Again, both dishes were executed to perfection although I enjoyed my rabbit a little better. The wine selections were reasonably priced and delicious. Our waitress was outstanding, fabulous, and very helpful. I can't wait for my next visit. PS The prices that appear in the photos are way wrong. Look for a current menu online.
Laissez les bons temps rouler! My wife & I kicked off our New Orleans vacation with dinner at La Petite Grocery. La Petite Grocery is a French restaurant located on Magazine St. The restaurant boasts many high accolades including the 2016 James Beard Award for Best Chef: South. We started with the Blue Crab Beignets with malt vinegar aïoli. Crab + beignets = an irresistible choice! Trust me, they're as delicious as they sound. The savory & succulent crab beignets melt in your mouth while the malt vinegar aioli enhances an already perfect dish. We then tried the Alligator Bolognese featuring tagliatelle, sherry, parsley & a fried soft boiled egg. The alligator was mild, but not "lost in the sauce" literally. I found the sauce to be robust with an adequate level of spice. I'm nearly certain the tagliatelle pasta was made in house. The fried soft boiled egg added a velvety lusciousness to the bold sauce which created a harmonious balance. A beautifully executed dish. The Panéed Rabbit featuring spaetzle, wilted greens, turnip puree & sauce grenobloise was quite the treat. The rabbit was prepared perfectly. It was lightly fried & delicate. Sauce grenobloise is a French sauce made with butter, lemon & capers & is usually served with fish. However, it paired superbly with the slightly gamey rabbit. This dish also featured the correct amount of fresh sautéed garlic. Dinner at La Petite Grocery is going to be exceptionally hard to beat! Service was as good as it gets. They have an impressive wine selection & an exciting cocktail menu. The ambience is charming & sophisticated, but not stuffy. I felt immensely relaxed in this more than century-old building in The Big Easy. I cannot recommend this place enough next time you're in town.
Favorite meal in NOLA hands down. This dinner was pure perfection. From the blue crab beignets, to the shrimp and grits, all the way to the desserts, we loved every dish and the service was fantastic. This is a romantic, quiet, yet still cozy place that you can come with friends or loved ones. LOVE LPG! Can't wait to be back.
My favorite place in NOLA. The service is always warm and welcoming, from every single person you interact with. The specials change daily and are always excellent. But the regular menu is varied and delicious as well- you absolutely cannot go wrong. Such a beautiful restaurant with a reasonable noise level no matter how full the place is. On this particular visit, I had the garden salad, a special of fresh fusilli pasta with a short rib debris, French fries - ALWAYS French fries- and a special dessert - a chocolate financier with salted caramel ice cream and dark chocolate mousse. To die for!! My mother got the shrimp and grits which is the best in the city. Because I was celebrating my birthday, I was given a scoop of cereal milk ice cream with a candle. Don't miss this wonderful restaurant!!
